French Fried Green Beans
French Fried Green Beans taste great and kids love them. I made these crispy green beans to try to get my son to eat his vegetables. He will eat most veggies, but he often protests when it comes to green beans. He cleaned his plate when I turned them into crunchy, breaded green beans. Success!
Who says a French Fry has to be a potato? I turned green beans into french fries to make them more appealing to my son. He’s not a picky-eater, but there are a couple of vegetables he avoids. Green beans are one of them. But this recipe did the trick, he ate them with a bit of dipping sauce and enjoyed every last bite!
French Fried Green Beans Recipe
What’s needed?
- 1 pound fresh green beans
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
- 1 egg plus a splash of milk
- garlic salt
How to make French Fried Green Beans?
- Put about 5 cups of canola oil in a small Dutch oven. Heat it to about 350 degrees over medium heat. While the oil is heating, wash and blanch the beans in boiling water for two minutes. Drain and run under cool water. Dry green beans thoroughly. You’ve heard it before, oil and water just don’t mix. The beans will be a pretty bright green.
- Beat the egg and milk together in a bowl. Mix flour and crumbs together in another bowl. Dip the green beans in egg, then coat with breadcrumb mixture. Place them on a baking pan.
- When all beans are coated, drop them one at a time into the oil. Do not overcrowd the pan. Beans should not touch, so that they cook evenly.
- Fry beans for about 5 minutes. Remove from pot, drain, and sprinkle with garlic salt. Then fry the rest of the beans.
I served the French Fried Green Beans with a Pork Roast and Smashed Red Potatoes. And I made a dipping sauce for the greens beans. Simply mix together 1/2 cup Ranch dressing, 1/4 sour cream and 1 tablespoon of horseradish sauce. Cool ranch flavor with a bit of a kick. This is a tasty combination!
