This has quickly become of the most popular recipe on raveaboutfood.com These cookies are just delicious and truly taste like the holidays. Pillowy cookies with buttery sweet frosting. They are loved by everyone!
These cookies are great to make with kids. The cookie dough comes together easily in a stand mixer and can be scooped onto cookie sheets with a tablespoon-size scoop. My kids always love helping with this process. After baking, the cookies are sturdy and can easily be held by little fingers when decorating with frosting and sprinkles. And kids love to devour these cookies, too…so yummy with a glass of milk!
Old Fashioned Sour Cream Sugar Cookies
What’s needed?
For the cookies:
- 1/2 cup salted butter, softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup sour cream
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 4 cups flour
For the frosting:
- 1/2 cup salted butter, softened
- 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk
How to make Sugar Cookies?
- Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Using a stand mixer or a large bowl and electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar on high until blended. Add the eggs, vanilla, and sour cream and beat until smooth. Add the baking soda, baking powder and flour and beat on low until blended well. The batter will be soft.
- Using a tablespoon-size scoop, drop heaping, rounded balls of dough 3 inches apart onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the cookies for 12-14 minutes until just lightly golden and baked through.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely. In a medium bowl, mix frosting ingredients on low speed until well blended. Add coloring to the frosting if you wish. I added 4 drops of green food coloring to half of the frosting. The other half I kept as white frosting.
- Spread frosting on cookies and decorate with colored sugar or sprinkles. This recipe makes 2-3 dozen cookies depending on how big you make them.
They turn out soft and delicious every time. One of the best sugar cookie recipes you will make this season.
