Peach Cobbler
I recently brought back fresh, ripe peaches from a trip to South Carolina and I just had to make Peach Cobbler, one of my family’s favorite southern desserts. It is sweet and delicious when paired with salted caramel OR vanilla bean ice cream…the best summer dessert!
It is amazing to me just how easy this recipe comes together. Layer all the components in a baking dish and pop it into the oven. You’ll have a warm, gooey Peach Cobbler ready to eat in less than one hour.
Peach Cobbler
What’s needed?
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup flour
- 2 cups sugar, divided
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup milk
- 4 cups peach slices, about 5 medium peaches (peeled, if desired)
- Juice of 1 medium lemon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
How to make Peach Cobbler?
- Melt the butter and pour it in a 13×9 baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, one cup of sugar, and milk. Stir until combined. Pour batter over the butter in the baking dish and do not stir.
- In a medium skillet or saucepan, bring the peaches, one cup of sugar and lemon juice to a boil over high heat while stirring constantly. Remove from the heat and pour the peaches over the batter. Do not stir. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Bake the cobbler at 375 degrees for 45 minutes, it should be golden brown.
I like it best served warm with ice cream. I chose salted caramel ice cream this time and everyone thought it was a great match!
From beginning to end, this recipe takes about an hour…and it is well worth it. Peach Cobbler is one of my family’s favorite summer desserts. And to mix things up, you can add a handful of blackberries or blueberries to the dish before baking. You’ll just might create a new flavor combination that your family will simply love!
