S’mores Dessert Bars
Graham crackers, milk chocolate and roasted marshmallows are always a wonderful summer treat to make around a blazing fire. But there is no campfire needed for these S’mores Dessert Bars. When your family tries this sweet dessert, they are sure to ask, “Can I have s’more, please?!”
S’mores always make me think back to camping trips with my family when I was a kid. And I mean REAL camping, sleeping in a tent and cooking our food over an open fire. The smell of hot dogs and freshly popped corn were the best…almost! The ABSOLUTE best camping treat was roasting a marshmallow to a perfect golden brown and then putting it between two graham crackers with a piece of Hershey’s chocolate. The chocolate would melt next to the warm marshmallow, creating a yummy classic treat like no other.
Those exact flavors are rolled into this easy-to-make dessert. The cookie crust incorporates graham cracker crumbs and the toasty marshmallows settle on top of a layer of milk chocolate, making this truly delicious, ooey-gooey, sticky summer dessert the best!
S’mores Dessert Bars Recipe
What’s needed?
Cookie layer:
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Top layers:
- 12 ounces milk chocolate chips
- 10 ounces mini marshmallows
How to make S’mores Dessert Bars?
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mix butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla with a mixer on low speed. Add egg and beat until blended. Add dry ingredients and blend well. Stir in mini chocolate chips.
- Spread the cookie dough in the bottom of a 9×9-inch baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
- Pour the milk chocolate chips on top to cover cookie bottom. Layer mini marshmallows over chocolate chips. Broil in the oven under 400 degree broiler for 3-4 minutes. Watch it closely, so you don’t burn the marshmallows. The top should be golden brown.
You will need to serve these bars with a cold glass of milk…they are really rich and chocolatey! One of the best summer desserts!
