Slow-Cooker Sesame Beef with Jasmine Rice
When my son is home visiting, I try to make some of his favorite meals. Slow-Cooker Sesame Beef with Jasmine Rice is so flavorful and simple to make. It begins with an English Roast that is seasoned with soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger and garlic. Cook it in the slow-cooker until tender, then top it with green onions and sesame seeds. Doesn’t that sound delicious?!
Usually this dish would be prepared in a wok and stir fried. I’ve created a recipe that is very similar, but simmers in the slow-cooker for a long time. It yields the same great flavors and is amazingly tender and juicy. I think you’re going to love this new preparation for Sesame Beef with Jasmine Rice.
Slow-Cooker Sesame Beef with Jasmine Rice
What’s needed?
- 3 pounds, beef chuck roast
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 bunch green onions, chopped diagonally
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
How to make Sesame Beef with Jasmine Rice?
- Season the roast with garlic salt and pepper. Place the roast in a large skillet over medium high heat and sear on all sides. It will take about 3 minutes on each side to brown the meat.
- Slice the yellow onion and place it in the bottom of the slow-cooker. Once browned, place the roast over the onions. Add 1 cup of water to the slow-cooker. Mix the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and ground ginger in a small bowl. Pour the mixture over the meat and cover with a lid.
- Cook the roast on high for 4-5 hours. Using a pair of tongs, break the roast into large chunks. Add the green onions and cook for another 30 minutes to one hour.
- While the green onions are cooking, make jasmine rice, according to package instructions, and some steamed veggies. You can find Jasmine Rice in the Asian section of the grocery store. I also made steamed broccoli, carrots, and bok choy. Remember to add sesame seeds to the beef just before serving.
