Banana Split Brownies
Once in awhile I find a recipe that just screams “make me!” And this is one of those recipes. Banana Split Brownies are decadent and delicious! They are perfect for taking to your next party or family gathering.
This is a great way to ‘amp-up’ your basic brownie recipe. Using a boxed brownie mix as the foundation of the recipe is a great time-saver for busy bakers. Pudding, whipped cream and strawberries add the finishing touch. Who wouldn’t want to bite into a luscious Banana Split Brownie at the next family gathering?
What type of brownie mix is best?
Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownies are moist and loaded with chocolate chips. Thus the reason they call them DOUBLE chocolate brownies. They are also dense and delicious, so they hold up well to the pudding, whipped cream, and toppings you will add. This makes them a great choice for this recipe. I have found Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownies while shopping at Costco, Target, Publix, and Walmart.
Banana Split Brownies Recipe
Brownie layer:
- 2 boxes of Ghirardelli Double Chocolate brownie mix (you can find this at Costco or Target)
- eggs, water, and canola oil per box instructions
Banana layer:
- 2 boxes (3 ounces each) banana instant pudding and pie filling mix
- 4 cups of cold milk
- 2 containers of Cool Whip
Toppings:
- 1 cup chopped strawberries
- 1/2 cup pineapple tidbits, drained
- 2 bananas, peeled and chopped
- hot fudge ice cream topping
How to make brownies?
- Heat the oven to 325 degrees. Spray at 15×10-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
- Mix the brownie mix with eggs, water and canola oil in a large bowl according to package directions. Pour brownie batter in prepared pan and bake per instructions on box, about 45 minutes. Cool completely.
- In a medium bowl, stir the pudding mix and milk together for about 2 minutes. The pudding will thicken as you stir. Stir in 1 cup of Cool Whip. Spread the banana mixture over the brownies and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
- Before serving, use the remaining Cool Whip from 2 containers to cover the top of the dessert. Evenly sprinkle the chopped banana, strawberries, and pineapple on top of the whipped cream.
- Microwave the hot fudge topping for 30 seconds. While warm, drizzle it over the top of the dessert. Beautiful and delicious! Slice it into squares and serve immediately. This recipe makes 20 servings.
I put my own spin on the original recipe from Betty Crocker. There are so many ways to switch it up and make it your own. I love how it turned out and hope you try it, too!
