Beef Shish Kabobs
Grilling season has arrived and that means some terrific food. One of my go-to recipes on the grill is simple and inexpensive, Beef Shish Kabobs. It takes just minutes to prepare and grill these savory beef and vegetable skewers. I usually serve this with rice and fresh fruit salad. Nothing is better than food off the grill!
Using your outdoor grill makes meals so much easier. Spend a few minutes pulling together the ingredients, then place it all on the grill for a delicious dinner. And the best part is nothing to clean up in the kitchen. Just brush the grill and you are done. Doesn’t that sound appealing?
What type of skewers should I use for grilling?
There are two types of skewers to use for grilling, wood and metal. I prefer to use the metal ones, as they are easy to clean and reusable. This set of Metal Skewers from Good Cook are 12 inches long and they come in a pack of 4. They cost $2.86 and can be reused. I have three sets that I keep on hand to use for grilling or for fresh fruit kabobs. Wood skewers also work well, just remember to soak them in water before using them on the grill. This will prevent them from burning.
Beef Shish Kabobs Recipe
What’s needed?
- 2 pounds beef sirloin or charcoal steak, cut into 1-inch chunks
- soy sauce
- 1 medium red onion, chopped in large pieces
- 1 large yellow pepper, seeded and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 bunch fresh broccoli, cleaned and cut into bite-sized pieces
- 10-ounce package of large white button mushrooms
- Garlic salt
- Italian Seasoning
- Canola Oil
How to make Beef Shish Kabobs?
- Tenderize the steak with a fork by poking several holes in the meat. Cut the beef into large chunks and place it in a gallon-size plastic bag. Add a few tablespoons of soy sauce to the beef and seal the bag. The meat will marinade while you are preparing the rest of the veggies.
- Cut the vegetables into large pieces and put them on a plate. Begin building your Beef Shish Kabobs by threading the meat and veggies on skewers. I used metal skewers. If you use wooden ones, be sure to soak them in water before adding the meat and vegetables.
- This recipe makes 8 skewers, 8 inches long. Sprinkle garlic salt and Italian seasoning on each Kabob. Drizzle a bit of canola oil over the beef and vegetables.
- Put the skewers on a grill that has been heated to 350 degrees. I always line the grill with foil when making Shish Kabobs, just in case anything falls off the skewers while grilling, it is easier to retrieve.
- Grill the Kabobs for about 6-8 minutes, turn each and grill for another 6-8 minutes. They are done when the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender.
I served the Beef Shish Kabobs with rice and fresh fruit…healthy, quick and so delicious. Give this recipe a try using your favorite vegetables. You’ll be glad you did! It’s truly one of our favorite 30-minute meals for summertime.
