Christmas Crackle

How can this Christmas Crackle taste so good when it only requires 4 ingredients? And one of those ingredients is saltine crackers, how simple is that? Cover the crackers with a homemade caramel and top with chocolate chips. And you are done! Add some toppings to make them extra festive. These classic crispy, sweet treats are sure to be a hit!
Christmas Crackle Recipe
What’s needed?
- 48 saltine crackers (about 1 1/2 sleeves)
- 2 sticks of butter
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Toppings of your choice (shredded coconut, nuts, etc.)
How to make Christmas Crackle?
- Line a 15×10 jelly roll pan with parchment paper. Lay the crackers on the baking sheet with edges together. I usually make 8 rows of 6 crackers…or about 48 crackers total.

- Melt the butter and brown sugar in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Allow to bubble for about 3 minutes or until the butter has totally combined with the brown sugar. Pour the caramel mixture over the saltines and spread evenly.

- Bake in a 350 degree oven for 12 minutes until it is golden brown and brown sugar begins to crackle.
- Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Allow them to melt for a few minutes over the saltines.
- Then spread the melted chips evenly over crackers with a knife.

At this point you can refrigerate the crackle and you are done. But I like to add a topping to at least half of the crackle. OK, if you know me you know I’m going to add…COCONUT! Sprinkle it on while the chocolate is still soft.

You might want to add chopped nuts, candy sprinkles, or whatever sounds good. Refrigerate the crackle for at least an hour until it is set. Once it has hardened, use a knife to break it into pieces. I make the pieces fairly small since it is so rich and buttery.
We like Christmas Crackle with ice cream or a hot cup of tea. It also makes a wonderful gift in a decorative tin. This is truly an inexpensive way to make a sweet holiday treat!
