Cream Cheese Cookies
This recipe was a delightful discovery. I’ve never made Cream Cheese Cookies, but thought they sounded yummy and I had extra cream cheese on hand. So, I mixed up a batch and I’m so glad I did. They are soft and sweet, yet small enough that you can eat more than one. And believe me, you will want to eat more than one of these sweet treats!

Cream cheese turns these cookies into soft little pillows, easy to eat and so very flavorful. Decorate them with a powdered sugar glaze or some colored sugar sprinkled on top. They are small and tasty, a perfect addition to a dessert table or for including in a lunch box. Let’s get baking!
Cream Cheese Cookies
What’s needed?
- 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), room temperature
- 2 eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
How to make Cream Cheese Cookies?
- Heat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Using a stand mixer, slowly beat the soft cream cheese and butter until combined.
- Add the eggs one at a time and beat until fully incorporated. Add the vanilla and 1 teaspoon of baking powder.
- Stir in the sugar 1/2 cup at a time, mix well. Then add the flour 1/2 cup at a time mixing after each addition. Beat slowly until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated and dough is smooth, about 3 minutes.
- Cover the cookie dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least one hour.
- Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator. Using a small scoop, form 1 inch balls and place them on a cookie sheet about 1 1/2 inches apart. I was able to bake 20 cookies per baking sheet.

- Press each cookie slightly flat with your fingers and dust them lightly with powdered sugar.

- I dusted the first 20 cookies with powdered sugar before baking.
- The second sheet of cookies were rolled randomly through fine red sugar, not fully coating them. I wanted a different red pattern on each cookie for Valentine’s Day. Remember to press them a bit flat before baking.

- Bake cookies at 350 degrees for 9-11 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes. Remove them to a wire rack to cool completely.

How to add frosting to Cream Cheese Cookies?
- After baking, I drizzled the plain cookies with a little bit of homemade frosting.

- Mix 1/2 cup powdered sugar with 2 teaspoons of milk and stir until smooth. Use a spoon to drizzle the frosting over the cookies.
Adding the finishing touch!
- The cookies that are rolled in red sugar are finished with a light dusting of powdered sugar. I love the marbled effect it gave them.

This recipe makes 4 dozen cookies. The cookies are light and pillowy…they go great with a hot cup of tea on a cold winter day. Share them with someone you love on Valentine’s Day–or any day!
