Crispy Baked Chicken Wings Recipe
What’s needed?
- 3 pounds chicken wings, washed and dried, cut in half, wing tips removed
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/3 cup Frank’s Hot Sauce
How to make Crispy Baked Chicken Wings?
- Prepare the chicken wings by carefully cutting them at the joint with a sharp knife and removing the wing tips. Rinse them and pat them dry with a paper towel. Now you are ready to add some spices to your wings to make them flavorful and spicy, if desired.
- I use a combination of spices for this recipe. Combine garlic salt, black pepper, smoked paprika and baking powder in a gallon-size plastic bag, along with a 1/3 cup of Frank’s Hot Sauce. Add the wings to the bag and coat them with the spice mixture.
- Place the wings in a single layer on a wire rack over a baking sheet. This allows air to circulate around the wings while baking in the oven and will produce a crispy exterior, while making them juicy and delicious.
- Place the baking sheet on the middle rack in your oven. Bake the wings at 400 degrees for 40-45 minutes. The length of time depends on the size of your wings, larger wings could take 50-55 minutes until they are done. Using a pair of tongs, turn the wings halfway through baking time. Test your wings with a meat thermometer, it should read 165 degrees when wings are done.
- Remove the wings from the oven and brush them with your favorite barbecue sauce or some additional hot sauce, if desired. Serve them on a platter while warm and crispy with some fresh vegetables and Blue Cheese or Ranch dressing for dipping.
