Published on March 6, 2016 by Raveaboutfood

Sunday breakfast has always been a time in our house to bring the family together…starting the week with good food and family time. I made Easy Sausage Gravy and Biscuits with eggs and fruit. A hearty breakfast that fills us up and satisfies everyone. Just a few simple ingredients and 30 minutes in the kitchen and you have a hot, savory breakfast. I wish everyday could be Sunday!

Easy Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

There’s a time for homemade recipes and then, there’s a time for shortcuts. Many times I’ll grab a convenient item to use in a meal, like prepared biscuit dough, because I know that I won’t have time to make them myself or simply because it is EASY. Busy lives just mandate these choices and that’s okay! We all need to take a shortcut once in a while. Pillsbury is the leader is prepared doughs for a variety of baking needs, including biscuits, pizza crust and pie dough. And they all taste great!

What type of sausage should I use to make gravy?

I use one pound of ground pork sausage for this recipe. Since I’m an Ohio girl, our choice is Bob Evans Original Pork Sausage. It has great flavor and browns quickly in the skillet. If you select a maple flavored sausage, remember that it will make your gravy sweet. And Italian ground sausage may be spicy, so be sure to use the mild version, unless you want spicy gravy. I have even used bratwurst with the casing removed, as it has a savory flavor without too much sweetness or spice.

Makes 6 servings.

  • 16-ounce tube Pillsbury Grands Biscuits (Southern Homestyle)
  • 16 ounces ground pork sausage (Bob Evans Original Pork Sausage)
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 3  cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground dried sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

How to make Sausage Gravy and Biscuits?

  • Bake the biscuits according to package instructions.
  • While the biscuits are baking, brown the sausage over medium heat in a large skillet.
  • Add flour and stir, cooking for another 5 minutes.
  • Add the milk, black pepper and ground sage. Continue stirring while cooking over low heat for 8-10 minutes until thickened and bubbly.
  • Cook your eggs as desired, sunny-side up or soft scrambled, in a large skillet over medium heat to serve with the sausage gravy and biscuits.

I split each biscuit open and poured hot gravy over the bottom half. I served it with fluffy scrambled eggs and fresh fruit, you just can’t go wrong with this plate of comforting food. This is one of my husband’s favorite breakfast meals. I hope you take time to start the week right with a great breakfast shared with your family.
