Margherita Pizza Cups
Using marinara sauce, fresh mozzarella, grape tomatoes and fresh basil, I created these delicious little Margherita Pizza Cups. We love them as an appetizer or for lunch with a leafy salad. For something a bit more substantial, add some mini pepperoni or ground Italian sausage to each cup. For a veggie version, add some diced onion, mushrooms or pepperoncini. There are endless combinations to try when making these little pizza bites!
Who doesn’t love pizza? When it’s crunchy and cheesy all in one bite, you just can’t resist. These little bite size pizzas are perfect for hungry kids and adults. And they come together in less than 30 minutes.
The ingredients for these cheesy pizza cups are affordable and easy to find. I love to use fresh whole milk mozzarella, because it melts well and becomes creamy and delicious. But you can also use shredded mozzarella cheese, as it works just as well. Look for wonton wrappers in the refrigerated dairy section near the refrigerated pastas in your grocery store. These simple ingredients come together with fresh tomatoes and basil to make a tasty appetizer.
Margherita Pizza Cups
Ingredients:
- 24 wonton wrappers
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 12 slices (or cubes) of fresh mozzarella
- 12 grape tomatoes, cut in half
- 6 fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced
- Italian seasonings
How to make Margherita Pizza Cups?
- Lightly spray a 12-count muffin pan with cooking spray.
- Place two wonton wrappers in each hole, slightly rotating the top wrapper to form a flower with 8 points. Bake for 5-6 minutes at 350 degrees.
- Remove the wrappers from the oven and place one tablespoon of marinara sauce in each cup. Add a slice of mozzarella and two tomato halves to each cup. Sprinkle Italian seasonings over the top. Bake for another 12-14 minutes until wonton wrapper edges are browned and cheese is melted.
- Add fresh basil strips to the top of each cup and serve warm. Recipe makes 12 pizza cups.
We also like these pizza cups made with Italian sausage or mini pepperoni for a meaty version. You can really mix it up and use whatever you like best. If you order it as a topping on a takeout pizza, then you can most likely use it in this recipe, too.
