Red Velvet Kiss Cookies

These cookies are a great addition to a holiday cookie platter. They are so rich and chocolatey with a sweet candy kiss on top. My granddaughter helps me make these every year in December, and then we put them in pretty tins to share with friends and family. The best gift EVER!
Red Velvet Kiss Cookies Recipe
What’s needed?
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (1 stick)
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons red food coloring
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar in a separate bowl
- 24 unwrapped milk chocolate Hershey Kisses
How to make Red Velvet Kiss Cookies?
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix the first 5 dry ingredients in a medium bowl and set aside.
- In a stand mixer, beat the butter and sugar together. Add the egg, egg yolk, vanilla, and milk and beat until creamy. Add the red food coloring and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients until blended. The dough will be thick and reddish-brown.
- Using a 1 inch scoop, place rounded balls of dough into the bowl of powdered sugar and roll until covered. Shake off the excess sugar from each cookie.
- Place the cookies about 3 inches apart on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove them from the oven and allow the cookies to cool for 2 minutes on the baking sheet.
- Press an unwrapped Hershey Kiss in the center of each cookie. Remove cookies from the baking sheet to a cooling rack.
This recipe makes 24 cookies. I’ll be making a second batch because my son has eaten more than half of them already!
